A1P024: More comments:The building comprises 32 homes. The refurbishment complies with EnergieSprong specifications. This implies a performance of E=0 over 25 years.Owners are two local social housing companies. The complete district will consist 4 building blocks, from which only the first one with 4 building is ready built and occupied. At the end, it would be a district of ca. 1100 flats in 16 buildings with 78000 m2

Green infrastructure requirements. Examples of considered energy solutions: waste heat recovery and utilization, geothermal, air-water heat pumps, district heating return water, photovoltaics, A-class energy efficiency, smart control and monitoring, energy storages, E-mobility above national requirements, coolingThe buildings are designed based on Passive House standards and dynamic building and system simulations are performed to optimise the HVAC systems, that are a ground-water heat pump for space heating and district heating for domestic hot water preparation. Photovoltaic systems are installed in the available roof spaces, however, more renewable sources are required due to very large number of apartments (very high density) to reach PED, and thus, simulation studies are performed.Different kinds of waste heat streams are utilized by heat pumps. These are district heating return water (actually this is an indirect way to cool down the flue gas in the scrubber), ventilation exhaust air and sewage water. As a normal case, in ventilation also air-to-air heat exchanges are used. PV power is harvested also, in vertical and more horizontal panels. Buildings are well insulated to decrease the needed amount of heating energy in the first place.Energy modeling

B1P001: PED/PED relevant concept definitionRefurbishment of social housing. The refurbishment complies with EnergieSprong specifications. This implies a performance of E=0 over 25 years.Neutralpath-project is working with the cocept of PCEDs = Positive and Clean Energy Districts (energy-efficient and energy-flexible districts with net zero greenhouse gas emissions and a surplus of renewable energy). Aviapolis Climate-Neutral Lab will work with both PCED and PCED relevant cases within the district.Extremely low building energy demand, the electric energy of the heat pump used for space heating is significantly lower compared to thermal energy for the domestic hot water preparation. The PED main objective is to achieve the energy transition while preserving cultural heritage and improving citizen’s quality of life. The original idea is that the area produces at least as much it consumes.
B1P002: Motivation behind PED/PED relevant project development
B1P002: Motivation behind PED/PED relevant project developmentRefurbishment of social housingAccording to Vantaa city strategy 2021-2025 Aviapolis area aims to become the greenest airport city in Europe. The district is transforming from a logistics and business focused area to a lively urban district which gives an opportunity to rethink the areas energy solutions. With Neutralpath-project Vantaa aims to support the development of the district's energy system and explore innovative, energy efficient and fossil free district energy solutions.Since it is an urban area, with high building and apartment density, the need for CO2 reduction is quite relevant and thus, in new built, the minimization of CO2 emissions is crucial.POCITYF brings together eight cities (Lightouse and Fellow cities), all having cultural heritage areas in their territory. All are intrinsically motivated to participate in the necessary energy transition not only for their conventional city districts of mixed-used, but also for districts with individually specificities as those belonging in their cultural heritage, which at the moment may be acting as barriers for their further environmental sustainability, but after POCITYF will be acting as a promising building retrofits roadmap for similar and other EU cities.Developing systems towards carbon neutrality. Also urban renewal.
